This article examines the coffee economy in Central America through a Marxist perspective, arguing that post-ICA developments reinforced structural inequalities. Drawing on historical evidence, it highlights how state policies supported capital owners, limited land access, and contributed to labor exploitation, challenging Adam Smith’s theory of mutual economic benefit.
